Achieve Your New Year's Resolution Goals with Help from Plantation Resort!

The time for fresh starts and New Year’s resolutions is here. It can be difficult to keep New Year’s resolutions and, in fact, only 8% of resolution makers stick to their goals. We have some suggestions to help you stay positive and beat the odds in reaching your goals. We've put together a list of the top 5 most popular resolutions and expert advice as to how you can stick to your guns, especially while on vacation at Plantation Resort.

       1. Lose Weight - With all the delicious temptations out there, this can be an extremely difficult resolution to keep, but there are ways to make this goal more attainable. An important rule for achieving any goal is to make it specific and measurable. For instance, you don’t want your goal to just be “lose weight” you want it to be more specific like “go running 2-3 times a week” or “eat vegetables for 5-6 meals per week”. These are goals that you can more easily achieve.  Specific range goals like these are less daunting than having rigid or vague objectives where you feel like you've failed. More importantly, it gives you the power to make choices that will result in lower numbers on your bathroom scale.

While you're on Plantation Resort vacation, we've made it easy for you to reach your weight loss or work out goals by hitting the gym or trying out any of our great exercise activities like Zumba, Pilates or water aerobics. There are even a variety of healthy items at our breakfast buffet, such as yogurt and fruit, that will help in keeping your resolutions.

      2. Learn Something New - To learning something new takes long term commitment but is definitely worth working for. You're unlikely to become an expert on the Civil War, or learn to speak fluent Japanese over night.  The key to keeping this resolution is to remind yourself every day of your goal and to break up the goal into smaller achievable tasks. It is easy to do something small every day to work towards your goal. Learn a new fact or vocabulary word or when it comes to musical and artistic skill, practice for 10-20 minute every day.

From painting and sand art to swimming and exercise we have plenty of fun new things you can experience while you're here at Plantation Resort.  We offer these and many other fun activities for you to try that can become a great starting point in your quest to master a new skill.

3. Take a Vacation - A vacation is a key ingredient to a well-balanced life and should be a resolution we all can keep. Yes, it’s important to focus on work while you are at work, but when you're at play, leave work at the office. In a previous blog (click here to see the article) we mentioned studies that prove taking a vacation is effective in improving your health and well being. Vacations provide quality time with your family, away from the stressors of work, or great alone time with a loved one. When deciding where to go on vacation we hope that you consider Plantation Resort as your vacation destination.  Allow us to help you relax and recharge.

4. Volunteer - The holiday season tends to bring out the best in people as they look outside of themselves and see a world where they can make a difference. Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community and find the best “you” within.  What
better resolution than volunteering with many opportunities readily available this time of year.

5. Read More - Whether in school or busy with work, it can be challenging to find time to open a book.  Try making a list of the books you have been meaning to read and pick one.  If you need help with recommendations, try the website called goodreads (www.goodreads.com).  It’s a free online community book club where readers make recommendations based on your interest in other books.

At Plantation Resort, we've provided an easy way to explore new books with our “take a book, leave a book” shelf located at the Health and Swim Club.  Lots of people enjoy bringing a book to read on the beach or to relax with while on vacation.  We offer a way for you to recycle the book you've finished and give another an opportunity to enjoy what you've read.  Feel free when adding your book to the shelf to take one to enjoy that someone else has left.

6. Finish those around the house “To-Do” Lists - The new year is a good time to evaluate our to-do lists and complete them.  Plantation Resort also has a resolution.  We are continually updating the resort and plan to finish our “around the house ‘to-do’ lists” in the upcoming year.  If you'd like to hear more about the projects that we have been working on, read more about it in our previous blog article here: We're Always Making Improvements at Plantation Resort!

We hope that with whatever resolutions you decide to make, you have a very safe, healthy, successful and happy new year!  From all of us at Plantation Resort, we wish you all the best in 2014!
