Independence Day 2012 in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach is known for celebrating Independence Day in style, so if you're vacationing here during the 4th of July, prepare for food, fun and festivals! There's no shortage of patriotism along the Grand Strand. We have an abundance of events to keep our fellow Americans entertained all week long. Here is your guide to celebrating our beloved nation's 236th birthday.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans Baseball Game, Tuesday, July 3rd, 7:00pm

Get into the Independence Day spirit by treating yourself to one of America's favorite pastimes- baseball. The Grand Strand is home to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, a Class A Advanced Affiliate of the Texas Rangers. On Tuesday, July 3rd, head down to BB&T Coastal Field at 7:00pm to watch the Pelicans take on the Salem Red Sox. While you're at the ballpark, enjoy an all-American meal of hot dogs, nachos, and popcorn! Be sure to stay for all the innings because the game's grand finale includes a spectacular fireworks show over the stadium.

Independence Day 8k, Wednesday, July 4th, 7:00am

Runners, be on your marks! MacGuire Law Firm presents the 3rd annual Independence Day 8k at Market Common. 1 mile and 5k races are also available. To you receive a race day t-shirt, be sure to register in advance.

Myrtle Beach Speedway, Wednesday, July 4th, 7:00pm

Extreme racing, automobile crashes and fiery explosions! Watch a fast-paced display of true American grit and courage as the Myrtle Beach Speedway captivates you with death defying feats at the Wheels of Destruction Thrill show. You'll be endlessly entertained by motorcycle stunts, school bus races, car wrecks and rollovers. The final thrill of the night -- the fireworks extravaganza!

Surfside Beach Festival, Wednesday, July 4th, 6:00pm

Looking for family friendly fun this Independence Day? Make way to Surfside Pier at the corner of Surfside Drive and Ocean Boulevard to spend a relaxing day on the beach until 6:00pm when the city block party begins! Enjoy live entertainment, inflatables for the kids, giveaways, refreshments, and free ice cream. This celebration also ends with- you guessed it!- fireworks at 9:30pm.

Murrells Inlet Boat Parade, Wednesday, July 4th, 9:00am

Celebrate the 4th with a big helping of local tradition! Murrells Inlet holds their 29th annual Boat Parade with this year's theme, "Red, White & View! Inlet-style Tried and True." Stroll down the famous marshwalk while viewing dozens of boats decked out in patriotic swag and decor. The best boat "float" wins the coveted Bob Hendrick trophy! Murrells Inlet is the seafood capital of South Carolina, so grab lunch at one of the restaurants located along the marshwalk. If you're feeling a big surge of patriotism, buy a Boat Parade t-shirt from the local Boy Scout troop. The event kicks off at high tide (for you landlubbers, that means 9:00am) and concludes with a 10:00pm fireworks display off Veterans Pier.
