March Calendar of Events: There's Always Something to Do in Myrtle Beach


No matter the time of year, there is always something to do in Myrtle Beach and March is no exception.  With milder weather, less traffic, and fewer crowds than the busy Summer season, March is one of the best times to visit Myrtle Beach. 

We've put together a list of some of the outstanding events you can look forward to while you stay with us this March at Plantation Resort:


Silent Cities at Brookgreen Gardens

Walk through former slave and plantation owner graveyards and hear about the historical burial customs of European and African origin. Tickets are $15 in addition to garden admission for this two-hour excursion and must be purchased at Keepsakes, the Brookgreen Garden's gift shop, at least 10 minutes prior to departure time. Reservations are suggested.

Through interpretive panels along this walking trail learn about the history of The Oaks Plantation and see archaeological sites that include the footprints of the plantation owner’s house, kitchen and more.

Join the zoo keepers for a fun and interactive day with Brookgreen Garden's playful River Otters.  There will be craft tables with color sheets, word finds, masks, and more. Storybook reading and an Otter Birthday Party with cake and ice pops for the otters.  Listen to the keepers talk about these wonderful critters as they unwrap their presents.  Mother Nature’s Café Tour and Meet the Animals programs will also be available and all activities are included in garden admission.


Second Annual Hulk Trail 10K Challenge
March 2, 2014

Spring is a great time for a run in the woods!  Come to Hulk Trail in Myrtle Beach, also known as The Horry County Bike and Run Park, off of River Oaks Drive in Carolina Forrest, less than 15 miles from Plantation Resort.

Race starts at 1 p.m.; packet pick-up and race day registration is from 12 to 12:45 p.m. Every finisher will receive a finishers medal.


31st Annual National Shag Dance Championship Finals

If you enjoy watching dance shows on TV, then attending the National Shag Dance Competition is a must!  Experience the excitement of a first class dance competition in person. 



Just a few blocks south of Plantation Resort is where you'll find great times and delicious food while helping a great cause!  The town of Surfside Beach will serve BBQ sandwiches and hot dogs with all net proceeds to benefit SAFER (Surfside Area Fire and Rescue Responders).  There will also be free inflatable rides for the kids, local arts & crafts vendors, snack vendors and live music!

This is a family friendly event with walking and running events for all ages.  The purpose of this event is to create awareness and raise funds for breast cancer research and treatment.  The organizers invite all to celebrate with those who are fighting and surviving breast cancer and to honor the memory of those loved ones who have passed on.  Proceeds from race registration and fundraising will benefit local cancer organizations.



March 8 - March 16, 2014

Before the fun officially kicks off on March 8th, the Canadian consulate will welcome visitors on March 7th who are in town for this year's Can-Am Days at the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce. On March 10 at 6 p.m., the 53rd Annual Canadian American Days Festival Concert Series Kickoff gets underway in Celebrity Circle at Broadway at the Beach featuring The Burlington Teen Tour Band and other performances.

Town of Surfside Beach 50th Anniversary Ceremony

Happy Birthday Surfside Beach!  With this ceremony Surfside Beach will celebrate the 50 years since the town’s incorporation and the people who have been instrumental in making it the wonderful place it is today. Light refreshments will be served.  And lucky for us, the Surfside Beach Library is just around the corner from Plantation Resort. 



The town of Surfside Beach is hosting a dance to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.  Light refreshments will be served.  Reservations are required and can be made by calling 843-650-9548. 

5th Annual Irish Festival

The Irish Fest at The Market Common is now an annual tradition in Myrtle Beach.  It's a great family friendly event, with something for everyone: great beer, Irish food, live entertainment, vendors and kids' activities, including face painting, inflatables and much more.



St. Patrick's Day Celebration will feature music, fun and authentic Irish food and beverages.  Activities are set to include free, live performances, kids' zone, games and more.  Ocean Boulevard will be closed to motor vehicles from 8th Avenue North to 11th Avenue North. Parking is available east of Highway 17 Business in street parking spaces, private lots and of course the Pavilion Parking Garage.



Come wear your green proudly!  This event is a day-long music festival featuring all types of local and national recording artists on one of the state's largest & loudest stages.  It's a quirky street festival featuring dozens of vendors and local businesses offering their products "open-air" style on the sidewalk.   This seaside carnival features midway rides, bounce houses, games, face painters, pony and camel rides and much more.  The famous North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade is the biggest parade on the Grand Strand.  You won't want to miss it!

Returning for this year’s event will be Camp Flintlock, a group of historical re-enactors who will be presenting hands-on programs throughout the day to immerse visitors in what life would have been like during colonial times.  Highlights will include fife & drum music, an opportunity to write with quill & ink, and browsing colonial reproductions for sale.


26th Annual Run to the Sun Pee Dee Street Rodders Car and Truck Show

Come see the largest car and truck show in South Carolina where you can admire many different types of cars and trucks.  Be sure to make time to see these cars cruise down Myrtle Beach's famous Ocean Boulevard starting at 5:00pm on the 20th.

67th Annual Plantation Tours

Plantations and town houses in and near Georgetown, SC

The 67th Annual Plantation Tour of plantations and town houses in and near Georgetown will be held March 28 and March 29, 2014. The majority of the plantations and town houses are privately owned and graciously shared with the Episcopal Church Women of Prince George, Winyah, Parish once per year.  A different group of homes is on tour each day.  In consideration of the homeowners, only a limited number of tickets will be sold for each day; therefore, advance ticket orders are highly recommended. Ever wondered what it would be like to spend the night at Atalaya?  Well, here is your chance!  Join Huntington Beach State Park for an evening of amusement and adventure as they hold their Atalaya Sleepover Event.  In addition to camping inside a National Historic Landmark, participants can take part in fun-filled activities such as a scavenger hunt and house tour.  For those needing some downtime, you can also relax beside a cozy campfire with a complimentary Atalaya coffee mug.  A cookout dinner and breakfast are included. They have a limited number of tents, lanterns, and air mattresses available to borrow if you don't have your own. The cost is $50 per participant; children under age 6 are free.


Children's Butterfly Activity Afternoon

Enjoy a preview of the butterfly exhibit along with finger painting, coloring, story-book reading, and craft making activities.  All are fun and engaging ways to learn about butterflies and why they are not only very pretty but are very important to our environment.  Kids and adults will have a chance to experience the new Sensory and Nature Trail.
