The Greenhouse Effect at Plantation Resort

Last spring, the landscaping team at Plantation Resort decided to try something different in order to save money and practice genuine ingenuity.  The team constructed a greenhouse in hopes of growing plants on their own, while creating a refuge for the exotic plants who required a reprieve from the winter weather.

The Greenhouse Filled with Flowers and Exotic Plants
Before the greenhouse all bushes, flowers and trees were purchased from a third party and shipped to the Resort. Then in the fall, the landscaping team would dig up and compost the beautiful hibiscus and other tropical plants to rid the grounds of any vegetation that wouldn't survive the approaching winter.

Since the greenhouse's construction, plant orders have been cut in half and all tropical plants have been saved in anticipation of being replanted in early spring. What began as an experiment has grown into an expanding venture: another greenhouse was recently purchased to store the barely budding fruit and vegetable seedlings in preparation for the Plantation Resort garden.

That’s right – garden. Our new chef has worked closely with the landscaping team to cultivate a garden that, in time, will feature its wares at the breakfast buffet, poolside grill and the dinner venues on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Herbs, onions, tomatoes, bell-peppers, squash, cucumbers, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, watermelon and cantaloupe are just a few of the fresh produce to inaugurate the garden.

The New Plantation Resort Garden
Since 2010 our landscaping manager, Chris Jaeger, and his team have been busy transforming and updating the beautiful grounds at Plantation Resort. “We are taking care of the owners' investment”, explains Chris,“and with all of the new improvements we're hoping now, more than ever, Plantation Resort will feel like their home away from home."

Spring is in full swing at Plantation Resort, and the native plants to South Carolina are in full display: hawthornes are budding, jasmine is blooming and azaleas are bursting with color. March and April are gorgeous months to enjoy everything Plantation Resort has to offer. To make a reservation, please call 1-800-845-5039.

New Chef & Team Brings a Refreshing Twist to the Home-Made Favorites

New Head Chef: Chase Dunn
Since February, our new head chef, Chase Dunn, and his team have been busy revamping our popular breakfast buffet. You may have thought it was impossible to improve the menu, but we did it!

“I want guests to identify Plantation Resort with excellent food -- not just great accommodations", said Dunn who brings15 years of professional cooking experience to the position. He’s worked in bistros, cooked international favorites, managed fine dining restaurants and knows the secrets to a really good BBQ. We’re lucky to have him!

French Toast with a Twist
Taking crowd-pleasers from his cooking repertoire, Chase constructed comfort food right into the buffet – but there’s always a little twist to the old favorites. For example, his French toast, made with real French bread, is grilled to perfection and then topped with crispy bacon. Pour syrup over the bread and it’s a perfect combination of crispy outside and soft inside with a mix of salty and sweet. Absolutely divine!

Adding a punch to the pancakes, Dunn includes a specialty pancake alongside the staple, made-from-scratch, buttermilk variety. It’s impossible to get bored because there’s always something different: Monday you might find banana-walnut cakes, Tuesday plump blueberry and Wednesday sweet chocolate chip steaming in the tray. Make sure to sample the specialty pancake everyday because it’s always delicious!

Delicious Biscuits & Gravy
Finally, I have to mention the biscuits and gravy. Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever tasted gravy that compliments soft, buttery biscuits so perfectly. Cooking from scratch, Chase carefully creates a soft flavor for this morning gravy. Instead of the strong pepper taste from before, the new sausage gravy has a light taste, and is smooth while remaining thick. This new menu item is a definite, must try!

Allow our breakfast buffet to make your vacation relaxing, memorable and delicious. “As a mother, I love the idea of walking outside and getting a delicious, homemade breakfast”, said Plantation Resort General Manager, Karla Davis. “There’s no dishes, no driving and for a mom on vacation – this will be her best friend!"

Fill up for all day trips to the beach, shops or pool for only $6.36 plus tax. You won’t find a better deal anywhere along the Grand Strand. When you stay here let your stomach be your alarm clock, and join us for the brand-new breakfast buffet at Plantation Resort.

Try a little bit of everything. It's all good!

Two New Shuttle Buses Ready to Serve You

What better way to enjoy your vacation at Plantation Resort than by spending a day at the beach!

The beach is waiting, let us take you there.

Our complimentary shuttle service makes it easier for you to step outside, and in a matter of minutes, find yourself at the beach with your toes in the sand and a cold drink in the cooler. This year, to meet the increasing demand of this popular service, we have purchased two new shuttle buses – boosting our total fleet to 3. All of our 14-passenger vans allow us to safely bring you to Surfside Beach while you sit back and relax without the stress of traffic jams or fighting for limited, paid parking.

In spring and summer, the shuttles run 7 days a week from 10am - 6pm. Shuttles heading to the beach run on the hour (i.e. 10, 11, etc.) and their returning counterpart leaves Surfside Beach on the half hour (i.e. 10:30, 11:30, etc.). The last shuttle to head to the beach is at 4pm, and the last shuttle to leave Surfside Beach for Plantation Resort is at 6:00pm everyday.

The Plantation Resort Fleet - Ready to Serve You!
During fall and winter, shuttle service is available upon request. Call ahead and we'll take you to Surfside Beach, The Tanger Outlet on Highway 501 or The Coastal Grand Mall. No matter the season, Plantation Resort remains dedicated to bringing you greater access to the finest dining, shopping and beaches along the Grand Strand!

This year get ready for a worry-free vacation at Plantation Resort! All you need to do is sit-back, relax and leave the driving to us. For additional questions or to make a reservation please call 1-800-845-5039.

The South's Biggest Car Show! The 24th Annual Run to the Sun - March 15th-17th

If you have a muscle car, or you just love them…this is the place to be!

From March 15th – 17th the city of Myrtle Beach and Pee Dee Street Rodders will present one of the biggest car shows in the South. Fun events, great giveaways and beautiful cars cruisn’ the beach are all planned for this year’s big bash. Bring your camera to snap shots of the Friday night cruise on Ocean Boulevard, or of the car awards on Saturday – there will be plenty of photo ops!

Even the locals brave the crowds to join in the festivities. In fact several employees at Plantation Resort are Run to the Sun loyalists. Terry, a co-worker, Myrtle Beach resident and car show enthusiast said, “You will see any and every kind of classic car or custom street rod that you can imagine. They even have the modern editions of the classics: the Dodge Challenger and Charger along with the new Mustangs are usually there.”

Ronald Smith, an owner at Plantation Resort from Lincolnton, North Carolina, stays at Plantation Resort
when he comes for the weekend. He never misses the event because it offers him a chance to “step back in time and enjoy the muscle car era – when cars were really cars”.

Our favorite part of the weekend? Proceeds from the car show go to The Children’s Miracle Network and The National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Last year, Run to the Sun raised an astonishing $91,800 for these charities!

Plantation Resort is located less than 4 miles south of Myrtle Beach and offers a reprieve from the traffic, noise and crowds of our nearby neighbor. Include a little relaxation into your visit: book a relaxing massage at the Mother Earth Day Spa.  Improve your swing at our on-site golf clinic.  Laze away the day in one of our pools or lazy river.  We're less than 2 miles away from the beach, so in a matter of minutes you'll find yourself with sand between your toes soaking up the warm, springtime rays. For reservations, please call 1-800-845-5039.

Joins us for the 2012 Run for the Sun. Journey through the nostalgia and memories only the classics can invoke…we hope to see you soon!
